Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Lambeth
Ms Rosi Prescott DL
Appointed Representative Deputy Lieutenant: 2009
In her ‘day job’ as CEO of Central YMCA, the founding Association of the global YMCA Movement of 60 million members, Rosi is a passionate and relentless campaigner on behalf of young people and their health and wellbeing in the 21st Century. She founded the Body Confidence campaign in 2011 which, in partnership with an All Party Parliamentary Group, produced the ground-breaking report ‘Reflections on Body Image’ – the impact of which continues to reverberate as society begins to turn against the huge pressure on young people to look and be ‘perfect’. Recently she launched a further campaign, Eudaimonia!, aimed at the health and fitness industry (of which Central YMCA is an influential member), challenging the sector to rebalance its misplaced preoccupation with unattainable physical ‘perfection’ and instead also embrace the mind and spirit as integral to whole health. As Vice-Chair of the World Urban Network of YMCAs, she has spread the word and disseminated the learning internationally through the reach of the Movement, into thousands of communities across the globe. When she’s not doing that she can be spotted enthusiastically cycling up hill and down dale, even if more slowly than she would prefer.
