Nick Bracken OBE DL

Appointed Rep DL: 2021

Nick was born in West Ham and has lived in East London all his life. He served 33 years in both the British Transport and Metropolitan Police services rising to the rank of Commander. Upon retiring from the Police in 2011 he joined the London Borough of Newham and he has recently retired as their Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive. His past postings have included being the Borough Commander of Newham in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic games and being the Commander for North East London. He has also being the head of CID for the British Transport Police including counter terrorism. He is a former Chairman of the East London Community Sports Association and currently is the chairman of East London Rugby Club, a Life Vice President of the British Police Rugby Association and committee member for British Transport Police rugby.

He is a liveryman of the Worshipful company of security professionals and a freeman of both the City of London and the London Borough of Newham.

Civic Awards 2023 Ceremony – 27 April 2023

The Mayor, Cllr Trevor McKeever hosted the Civic Awards Ceremony at Havering Town Hall, Romford. A total of 22 People received the Mayor’s civic award including Colonel Markham Bryant MBE DL for his 50 years of public service in Havering including 11 years as the Representative Deputy Lieutenant. Mr Nick Bracken OBE, Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Havering presented three Deputy Lieutenants Awards to:

• Cadet Corporal Maria CHICHU – SJA (Unable to attend)
• Cadet Sergeant James Squirrell – SJA
• Cadet James McAllen – Metropolitan Police VPC.


The Mayor, Cllr John Mylod and the Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering, Mr Nick Bracken DL,  planted a gifted sapling from the Lord Lieutenant, in Langton Gardens, Hornchurch, on Friday 11th March.

Deputy Lieutenants, Mike Brace and newly appointed Manjit Singh were also in attendance.

The Lord-Lieutenant, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, and Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering, Mr Nick Bracken OBE DL, met with The Mayor,  Cllr John Mylod and the Council Leader; Cllr Damian White on the 4th March.

The Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering, Mr  Nick Bracken OBE DL,  attended RAF Hornchurch Heritage Centre’s opening ceremony on 19 September 2021.

On the 21st of August, the newly appointed Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Havering, Mr Nick Bracken OBE DL, organised and took part in a 78-mile cycle in aid of the Atlas Foundation  which helps deprived children move towards a better future through rugby. The Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering attended a service held at the Hornchurch War Graves, St Andrews Church to commemorate Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26 June.

The Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering attended the Armed Forces Day Flag Raising event in Havering.

The Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering attended a service at St Edwards Church Romford on 16 April, and at St Margaret’s in Barking, on 18 April, on behalf of Ian Pittaway, the Deputy Lieutenant of Barking & Dagenham, for His late Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering attended a service held at St Nicholas Church, Elm Park on 11 April for His late Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The Representative Deputy Lieutenant of Havering attends the opening of Eben Wood Charity Shop on 18th December. The shop is connected to Hope4Havering a charity helping the homeless in Romford.

The Representative Deputy Lieutenant of the London Borough of Havering attended The Armistice Day Assembly at Drapers Brookside Junior School, Harold Hill.

Havering Islamic Cultural Centre and the Havering Interfaith Forum came together on Sunday 1st September for a friendly cricket match at Ardleigh Green Cricket Club.The man of the match was 10 year old Aayush Baluja, who played alongside his father and grandfather.

The Representative Deputy Lieutenant attended a ceremony at St Edwards Church Romford on 28 October for the Laying up of the Standard of the NE Normandy Veterans Association.

The Representative Deputy Leuitenant of the London Borough of Havering attended the Memorial Service for veterans to mark the end of the Normandy Campaign held on 21 July. The Vice Lord also attended.


Havering welcomed His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent on the 13th June to show how the borough is flourishing in business, heritage and leisure.

His Royal Highness visited Coborn Engineering, Romford, Langtons House and Gardens, Hornchurch and the Sapphire and Ice Leisure centre.

At Coborn Engineering, The Duke, escorted by Colonel Mark Bryant, Deputy Lieutenant for Havering, was given a brief introduction to the company by management and staff.
