The Queen’s Green Canopy – Tree of Trees Ceremony at the Royal Hospital Chelsea
The Tree of Trees, designed by Thomas Heatherwick, was a spectacular 21-metre sculpture erected outside Buckingham Palace as an exciting centrepiece of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations in June. The sculpture featured 350 British native trees that reflected the joyful Jubilee tree planting which has swept the nation as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), inspiring over a million trees to be planted during its first season, from October to March.
Following the Jubilee weekend, the 350 trees were gifted to selected community groups and organisations to celebrate their work and inspire the next generation of tree planters across the nation. Each tree was set in recycled aluminium pots embossed with Her late Majesty’s cypher and were presented to Greater London’s recipients by the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, at a special Gifting Ceremony, on the morning of Monday 3rd October, at The Royal Hospital Chelsea.
