On Friday 21st April, 32 British Empire Medalists from the New Year Honour’s List were presented with their Medals by HM Lord-lieutenant of Greater London, Mr Kenneth Olisa OBE, on behalf of HM The Queen, in front of their family and friends at the Tower of London. The Constable of the Tower, Gen Sir Nicholas Houghton GCB CBE ADC, who kindly gave permission for the event to take place in the New Armouries, attended in his full ceremonial uniform alongside the Lord-Lieutenant and two of the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets. The Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Wg Cdr Mike Dudgeon OBE DL, read out the citations. A number of Representative Deputy Lieutenants were also in attendance to show their support. Music was kindly supplied by the Harrow Young Musicians. Air Cadets from 31 Tower Hamlets Squadron Air Training Corps provided logistical assistance. A video, by students from the London South Bank University, of the special occasion will be available on our website shortly.
