Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the borough of Bexley

Mr David Easton JP DL

Appointed Rep DL: 2020

David Easton was appointed as the Borough’s Representative Deputy Lieutenant in 2020, having been a Greater London DL since 2016.

David, or Dave as he is more well known, was born in Lewisham, SE London and has worked in the capital throughout his entire career, some 56 years to date. He served in the London Fire Brigade, as a uniformed officer, for 27 years, across all parts of London, including a number of years at Erith and Bexley fire stations, attending many of the major incidents that occurred in the capital during that period.

In 2000, David joined the London Borough of Bexley, and during his 22 years-service there, he held full responsibility for a number of departments, including the organisation and management of election events, the promotion of the Mayoralty and the work of local Councillors. For a number of years through that period, Dave was also responsible to the Council for the work of the Borough’s Registration Service, where he oversaw the transfer of the Births, Deaths and Marriages work from the Manor House at Sidcup, over to the beautiful setting of Danson House. Dave now regularly visits the House, when officiating at Borough Citizenship ceremonies.

Dave is passionate about the role of Civic and Ceremonial Mayoralty in local authority areas and, along with the work of the Lieutenancy and the role of the Royal Family, he meets groups of local residents to help them learn and understand more about these historical aspects of London’s and Bexley’s heritage. He has served, and continues to do so, as a Magistrate on the SE London Bench, since April 2006 and over recent years, as a Presiding Justice on that Bench. Dave really enjoys working with and mentoring new Magistrates, to help them settle into their chosen field of voluntary work.

In April 2025, Dave was appointed as the Saint John Ambulance Network President for Bexley and Greenwich. Since he started in the role, Dave has fully qualified as a Community First-Aider and now joins his unit colleagues when they attend and cover community events in the Borough. He is really proud to wear the famous uniform and he is in complete awe of the skills shown and the hours voluntarily given by the Badgers, Cadets and the adults in the Borough unit. The team from the Borough cover all of the home games for Charlton Athletic FC, at the Valley ground, and regularly provide life-saving and other support to attendees at the matches there.

Dave is really proud to have been appointed as a Trustee of the East Wickham and Welling War Memorial Trust and is thoroughly enjoying learning more about both great wars, in particular, the 1914/1918 war and the role of local, Bexley men and women, who were called away to deal with that conflict, many of whom did not come home to their families.

Dave and his wife, Janet, have four children and eight grandchildren.
