Representative Deputy Lieutenant for London Borough of Lewisham
SIR STEVE BULLOCK DL
Steve retired as Lewisham’s directly-elected mayor in May 2018 after serving four terms. Since 2010 he had been serving as the London Councils’ Executive lead on Housing and the Mayor of London’s Homes for Londoners Board.
Steve is a director of the Housing & Finance Institute which seeks to boost the capacity of the sector and secure increased delivery. He is continuing to work with some individual local councils on improvement as part of the Local Government Association (LGA) Peer Programme.
Sir Steve’s local government career started at the Greater London Council (GLC) in 1976. In 1982 he was elected on to Lewisham Council, where he served as Leader for five years between 1988 and 1993. He also ran a local Community Health Council and was later Chair of University Hospital Lewisham NHS Trust.
He served as Deputy Chair of the LGA and chaired its Commercial Board. He previously led the LGA’s work on Human Resources including oversight of national pay bargaining for the sector.
During his time as mayor Sir Steve increased the delivery of new housing in Lewisham and enabled the Council to begin building homes for rent again. During his final term the council launched the innovative “Ladywell Place” scheme involving a modular construction method. He also placed particular emphasis on working with and for young people and introduced the ground-breaking Lewisham Young Mayor programme.
His interests include theatre, country walks and traditional music. He is a patron of the Saltburn Festival of Folk Music, Dance and Song which takes place in North Yorkshire each August.

Jane handed over to Steve who is now the new Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Lewisham. The Mayor of Lewisham, Damien Egan was also in attendance and made a presentation to Jane to mark her service as the Representative DL.
Jane presented two ATC Cadets with DL Certificates. Cadet Sergeant Bradley Penney and Cadet Sergeant Hollie Lane both from 1921 (Lewisham) Squadron ATC.
